SENIOR CITIZEN'S EXERCISE


STRENGTH. older people may expeerience the loss of muscle strength. Experts recommend this:
- SIT ON A CHAIR WITH FEET FLAT ON THE FLOOR. Raise both arms to shoulder level and lower for 8 counts.

Be aware not to hold your breath during strength exercises as this can affect your blood pressure. Breath in and out normally.

ENDURANCE. Along with losss of muscle strength older people tend to lose their aerobic fitness as well. Cardio exercises like walking, swimming and sweeping the floor increase heart rate and breathing for an extended period of time. They improve heart health and also contribute to weight loss by increasing your metabolism.

Be aware, if you have been inactive for a long time start your cardio exercise program slowly and building your endurance gradually.

FLEXIBILITY. with age, joints become stiff and have a decreased range of motion. Stretching exercises develop flexibility.

Be aware, always warm up before stretching exercises. Never bounce into a stretch... make slow, steady movements to help your muscles stretch naturally.

BALANCE. balance execises help you avoid injuries from falls and keep you independent and mobile. You need strong legs to help maintain your balance. Walking is the best exercise that develops strong leg muscles. Try to do at least 110,000 steps a day. If you want to lose weight, increase it to 13,000 steps-a-day.

Be aware, experts agree that some exercise is better than no exercise at all and remember to drink lots of water at least 10 glasses a day.

STRETCHING YOUR BODY


First learn how to breathe during a stretch. Do not hold your breath when stretching. Breath in during the starting position and breath out during the stretch. By breathing out, your body releases the tension and your movement is more fluid, more relaxing.

Be aware, stretching is one of the best ways to relieve TENSION.

Trials are indeed wake-up calls from the Lord. What God is trying to do is change you and me not the circumstances. He wants to teach us a lesson. We will miss out the blessing by constantly begging Him to change the circumstances and not giving Him a chance to speak to us. In times of unfavorable circumstances in life, let us be reminded of the following:

^ Do not rebel against your circumstances. Allow the testing process to be brought to completion so that you may rexeive the maximum benefit of God's teaching.

^ Ask for wisdom. God's wisdom is the greatest tool for your spiritual growth. When you are receptive of God's wisdom, you are openning yourself up to learn about God's overall purpose and plan.

Be aware, REJOICE in the midst of your trials. Embrace whatever trials you are going through. It is God's design to bring you to full maturity in Him. THANK him today what He is doing in your life, and for the blessings of your trial.

OBESITY RISK DISABILITY LATER


Study has shown that people who are overweight or obese in young adulthood and middle-age are at risk of being disabled in their later years.

The finding underscore the importance of preventing the excessive weight gain early in life. The data suggest that interventions to prevent overweight and obesity in young and middle-age adults maybe useful in preventing or delaying the onset of mobility limitations later in life.

Be aware, excess pounds can contribute to later life disability by creating wear-and-tear in the joints. The longer a person had been overweight, the greater his/her risk of mobility limitations research reports said.

REMINDERS in LIFE


^ Maybe God wants us to meet a few wrong people before meeting the right one, so that when we finally meet the right person, we will know how to be grateful for the gift...

^ When the door of happiness closes, another opens. But oftentimes, we look so long at the closed door that we don't see the one which has been opened to us...

^ Giving someone you love is never an assurance that they'll love you back! Do not expect love in return, just wait it to grow in their hearts. But if it doesn't, be contented that it grows in yours.

^ It is true that we do not know what we've got until we lose it. But it is also true that we don't know what we've been missing until it arrives...

^ Always put yourself in others shoes. If you feel that it hurts you, it probably hurts the other person too...

GETTING BACK to SLEEP


After you wake up during the night, if you find it hard to go right back to sleep, experts had this to say:

- it is okay to lie in bed for about 15 or 20minutes. Beyond that you're probably not going to have an easy time getting back to sleep. They say you should get out of bed.

- read a book or magazine, soak in a warm bath or do something else relaxing.

- you should not do anything that would tend to make you even more awake such as an office work, cleaning or watching tv.

BE aware, after about 20 minutes of your relaxing activity, head back to bed. Getting back to sleep should now be a lot easier.

LIFE with a PURPOSE


Rick Warren said: "the greatest tragedy in life is not death, but life without a purpose" Hope is essential to your life as air and water. You need hope to cope up with the demands of living.

Without a clear purpose you have no foundation on which you base decisions, allocate your time, and use your resources. You will tend to make choices based on circumstances, pressures and your moods at the moment. People who do not know their purpose try to do too much and that causes stress, fatigue and conflict.

Be aware, the purpose driven life leads to a simpler lifestyle and a saner schedule. As the bible said: "a pretentious showy life is an empty life, a plain life is full of life -which leads to peace. Heb 13.7

TEA History


Legend has it that more than 4,000 years ago in 2,737 BC, tea was discovered by Chinese Emperor Shennong quiet by chance. A dead leaf had fallen into his drinking water while it was boiling under a tree.

He unwittingly drank it and was so taken by the refreshing effect of the tea leaf that he named it cha (tea in Mandarin). Tea drinking soon spread across the country and became the symbol of Chinese high culture which later travelled to other parts of Asia, Europe and the Americas and Russia. Since ancient times, the Chinese have been using tea to improve their health and to cure illnesses.

BE aware, today there are about 1,500 varieties of tea but only the leaves from the "camella sinensis" species of plants are considered tea.

DONT'S in Drinking TEA


^ If you have a weak stomach and poor digestion, DO NOT DRINK GREEN TEA or JASMINE TEA. You could feel slight pain in the stomach after drinking the tea even in moderate quantities. Oolong tea and Black tea is good for such kind of people. These envigorates the spleen where redundant red blood cells are destroyed, clear stomach heat and counteract alcohol toxins.

^ If you have an empty stomach/gastric problems, DO NOT DRINK GREEN TEA. This is because the acid in the tea can harm the stomach causing stomach aches, and in severe cases stomach flu.

^ tea is not good for pregnant women and toddlers because polyphenols in tea bind with iron making it harder for the body to absorb it. Cutting down on tea and coffee could improve iron levels in the body. This is important for young and pregnant women and toddlers who are most at risk of iron deficiency anemia.
^ 2-3 cups of tea a day should be the maximum depending on what type of tea one is drinking. This is because tea is diuretic, which increase the rate of urination. This in turn causes the body to lose minerals if a person passes urine too often. The "tannin", a polyphenol in tea can also reduce absorption of minerals.

BE AWARE, you have drunk more than you need when you feel uncomfortable in the stomach, or your sleep is disturbed. You could also have loose stools the day after drinking a lot of tea.

Scott Perry said: "failure is the secret of success", because success is not measured by a person's achievement but by obstacles someone has overcome. As proof, he observed that some 25% of the jobs that exist today were unknown as recently as 10 years ago and that - today's wealth is not gathered by perfecting what is known but imperfectly, seizing the unknown.

Many of the successful people we know today were bred by the different seeds of failures:

Michael Jordan - was once cut from the varsity basketball team when he was a sophomore in high school.

Thomas Edison - he failed 10 thousand times before he got his light bulb working

Be aware, we can only make fantastic advances . . . through failures. Afterall success is born from out of the many failures we go through in every chosen endeavor.

SMOKERS reduce Cancer Chances by eating FRUIT


People who eat 600grms or more vegetables and fruit everyday appear to have a 20-25% lower chance of developing colon cancer than people who eat 220grms or less. For smokers, the consumption of fruit and vegetables appears on the contrary, to increase the chances of colon cancer. Protection against colon cancer through the consumption of vegetable and fruit therefore depend on smoking habits. The conclusion is: Please STOP SMOKING.

OBESITY a growing health MENACE

7. Avoid sugary foods. Sugar plus bacteria equals oral plaque. Plaque leads to bleeding gums, tooth decay and cavities. Plus the acid in refined sugars and carbonated beverages dissolves tooth enamel.

8. Gargle with apple cider vinegar in the morning and then brush as usual. The venigar helps removes stains, whitens teeth and kill bacteria in your mouth and gums.

9. Brush your teeth with baking soda once-a-week to remove stains and whitens your teeth. You can use salt as an alternative toothpaste.

10. Eat "detergent" foods. Foods that are firm or crisp help clean teeth as they are eaten like apple, carrots, celery and pop corn.

11. Practice flossing your teeth.
