Controlling our THOUGHTS . . .

The mind is always restless and goes where ever the attention is. Control your attention and you can control your mind. Writer Sri Chinmoy declares, "Thoughts have power. If we allow negative thoughts to dominate our mind, we will be frustrated, unhappy and it will rob us of inner peace. If we can stop negative thoughts, we will be able to see the beautiful side of life even in this mundane world. We will be able to attain inner peace. The more focused we are on our negative thoughts, the more they become powerful. To stop endless cycles of thoughts, he cites the following tips to control our mind:

Make a conscious decision to stop the thoughts. Be aware of their negative impact in your being and don't allow them to bother you. Do something to detach yourself from the negative thoughts or switch your thoughts to some wonderful and happy events in your life.

Look upon the thoughts as being outside of yourself. When thoughts appear in your mind, look upon the thoughts and tell yourself that you should not allow yourself to be a victim and be abused by this thought. Be more powerful than your thoughts. Remember that the mind is a great manipulator and a tricky one at that.

It is said that an idle mind is a workshop of the devil, so get busy. Do something that would interest you or find a hobby that makes you happy.

Meditate. Meditation is the best way to learn how to control your thoughts. In meditation, we not only control our thoughts, but we also can bring to the fore our inner qualities of peace and oneness.
