SWINE FLU Updates for Treatment

Brazil has now 557 swine flu deaths making it the country with the highest number of fatalities in the world from the disease, next is United States which has 522 as of August 20 this year. The pandemic A(HIN1), the elderly seem to be protected from the infection to some extent, perhaps due to previous exposure to similar strains. Persons born before 1957 , other studies have suggested were almost certainly exposed to the milder seasonal A(H1N1) viruses that evolved from the terrible pandemic in 1918 which left some 40M dead.

A(H1N1) poses high risk for people with pre-existing condition such as pregnant women and patients with neurological disorder, respiratory impairment, diabetes or severe obesity.

World Health Organization says healthy people who catch swine flu from mild to moderate case do not need anti viral drugs like Tamiflu. WHO said the drug should definitely be used to treat people in high risk groups who get the virus. That includes children less than 5 years old, pregnant women, people over 65 and those with other health problems like heart disease, HIV or diabetes.

Roughly 50M doses of vaccine are expected to be available by mid-October. But for those who get initial doses right away, that will only mark the beginning of a vaccination process that will take 5 or more weeks. Health officials believe most people will need 2 shots, spaced 3 weeks apart, and it will take a week or two after the second dose before immunity kicks in. That is 5 or 6 weeks in all.

Since it was first reported in April, swine flu has turned out to be not much more dangerous than seasonal flu overall. Government experts say it may soon become just another variety of the flu, and perhaps will conform to the seasonal flu calendar - vaccinated against in the fall, suffered through every winter.

Over 20 pharmaceutical companies around the world are racing to test, produce and distribute more than a billion doses of the vaccines in anticipation of the second wave of infection.

GOING ORGANIC

Because of the many chemical properties that are placed in processed food and medical treatments plus the hazardous waste absorbed through the inhalation of polluted substances in the air, the body's immune system is constantly challenged.

Eating the right foods is no longer enough. Eating safe foods is better; food that is grown and processed in safe conditions. Dr. Corazon Villaber, a medical doctor who has specialized in natural medicine has reported that when prescribing the regular drugs for her cancer patients, the success rate of their treatment was only 20%. With organic based medicines, the patient is given an 80% chance which is considerably high as the immune system is boosted instead of shaken.

Be aware, a lot of information on food sources for immunity boosters have shown us that some of the best chemo therapies can be done naturally. The most recent discovery is the guyabano/soursop which in Brazil was found out to be very potent immunity strengthener.

SWINE FLU shot protection by November

Atlanta- roughly 50M doses of vaccine are expected to be available by mid-October. But for those who ge initial doses right away, that will only mark the beginning of a vaccination process that will take 5 or more weeks.

Health officials believe most people will need 2 shots, spaced 3 weeks aprt, and it will take a week or two after the second dose before immunity kicks in. That is 5 or 6 weeks in all.

Since it was first reported in April, swine flu has turned out to be not much more dangerous than seasonal flu overall. Government experts say it may soon become just another variety of the flu, and perhaps will conform to the seasonal flu calendar- vaccinated against in the fall, suffered through every winter.

Be aware, but swine flu cases have persisted through this summer, especially in camps and other places where children congregate. It's possible they will explode not long after kids return to schools this fall.

SWINE FLU Could Cause 90,000 deaths in US

The epidemic resurgence could produce infection of 30%-50% of the US population this fall and winter, with symptoms in approximately 20%-40% of the population (60-120M people) more than half of whom would seek medical attention, report said.

The epidemic it said," could cause between 30k and 90k deaths in the United States, concentrating among children and young adults. The report said the epidemic poses " especially high risk" for people with pre-existing conditions such as pregnant women and patients with neurological disorder, respiratory impairment, diabetes or severe obesity.

Be aware, a vaccine against the A(H1N1) virus is only projected to be available in mid- October, and it will take vaccinated individuals several more weeks to develop protective immunity, the report said. According to the latest official US figures, the 2009 swine flu strain has already killed 522 people in the United States and hospitalized almost 8,000 people since it emerged in Mexico at the end of April.

SWINE FLU overshadows Ramadan

Riyadh - the threat from the A(h1n1) virus prompted a string of governments to bar their citizens from making the pilgrimage to the holy places in Saudi Arabia. Traditionally made by many Muslims during Ramadan while financial worries forced many families to cut back on their holiday spending.

Saudi newspapers showed pictures of pilgrims wearing face masks to ward off the A(H1N1) virus which has killed 16 people and infected more than 2,000 in the kingdom.

Be aware, Shiite Iran was among the countries banning it's citizens from making the pilgrimage. It cancelled all flights to the kingdom fro the duration of Ramadan.

PREPARATIONS vital for next A(h1n1) wave

Beijing - WHO Chief Margaret Chan urged governments to prepare for a likely second wave of Influenza A(H1N1) cases, cautinining they will face tough decisions on how to dispose vaccines.

"We can not say for certain whether the worst is over or the worst is yet to come" Chan said "we need to be prepared for whatever surprises this capricious virus delivers next... constant random mutation is the survival mechanism of the microbial world.

About 1,500 people have died since the A(H1N1) virus was first discovered in April, the vast majority of those deaths have been recorded in the Americas Chan said the issue of how to ensure adequate vaccine supplies worldwide needed to be tackled "head on".

Be aware, priority groups for initial protection is one of the most difficult decision governments around the world will need to make, especially as we know supplies will be extremely limited for some months to come.

Getting Hungry II of III

Here's what the book "Fight Fat, Secrets for Successful Weight Loss" by Alisa Bauman suggest:

>Smell your food.
Studies have shown that once you start eating, smelling food can make you stop eating sooner by satisfying you faster. So rsy more slowly and take the time to smell what you are eating.

>Keep a food diary.
Write down unplanned eating and the circumstances under which it occured. Review your notes after so you know what triggers your appetite and you can plan how to deal with it.

>Eat breakfast.
Research shows that women who eat breakfast tend to snack less on high-fat, high calorie goodies.

>Spice up your food.
Food will satisfy you more quickly if it taste good and has a good mouth-feel. So as not to resort to large amounts of sugar, salt or fat, use herbal seasonings or other flavorings that tend to be hot or sour. Try lemon juice or chili powder.

>Eat food that fills you up more.
Some food will fill you up faster and satisfy your hunger better than others. The faster food fills you up, the less of it you will eat. Some of the filling foods are apples, orange, potatoes, whole wheat pasta, fish, lean beef steak and popcorn.

>Don't overdo fat.
Researchers said: "high-fat meals at any time of the day tend to make you crave for more fat. A high-fat meal seems to be not as satisfying as a high carbohydrate meal.

>Turn-in to slow mood music.
People tend to chew faster and eat more when they listen to fast tunes than to slow ones.

>Get more exercise.
Good, healthy exercise can decrease appetite.

>Play with your food.
When you go to a restaurant, try ordering food that will keep your hands busy and will take longer to eat (like hot soup or a lobster in a shell)

>Wear something more body-fitting than something loose.
It will keep you from overeating if you're trying to lose weight.

GETTING HUNGRY I of III

Dr. Beverly Cowart, said: "for many women, their eating behavior is motivated more by external influrnces such as sight and smell at food than by hunger. For some women they find it very difficult not to eat if they are surrounded by food that is very appealing.

On the other hand, your brain, eyes, nose, taste buds, intestines, nerves, internal chemicals and hormones all have a say on when how much and even what you eat. Sometimes they'll tell you what you should eat.

BE aware, your stomach neurotransmitters and hormones will often signal you to eat only when nutrients are low, urging you to eat only when and what you really need to. Now when your eyes, nose, and taste buds tell you to eat, be more cautious. We can however, train our brain and stomach to be our hunger patrol.

Faith Rites Boost Brain III of III

The parietal-frontal circuit gives us a sense of the space around us and our place in it. Meditation suppressess this sense, giving rise to a serene feeling of unity with God on the world.

Even 10-15 minutes f meditation appear to have significantly positive effects on cognition, relaxation and psychological health.

Be aware, Newberg says, his work might help both believers and atheist understand religious feelings, which were-among the most powerful and complex experiences people have.

Faith Rites Boost Brain II of III

In essence, when you think about the really big questions in life - be they religious, scientific or psychological- your brain is going to grow. Newberg says that "neurotheology" - the study of the brains role in religious belief has begun to shed light on what happens in believers heads when they contemplate God. He debunks the notion there is a single "God spot" in the brain responsible for religious belief.

Instead, religious experiences fire neurons in several different parts of the brain, just like other events do.

Locating them does not explain them, but gives pointers on how these phenomena occur and what they might mean.

Newberg sketch out some of the "God circuits" of the brain and their effects especially if trained through meditation as muscles are through exercise.

Be aware, meditation both activates the frontal lobe which creates and integrates all of your ideas about God, and calms down the amygdala, the emotional region that can create images of an authoritative deity and fog or logical thinking.

Faith Rites Boost Brain 1 of III

Philadelphia - Buddhist monks and Catholic nuns boost their brain power through meditation and prayer but even atheist can enjoy the mental benefits that believers derive from faith according to a popular neuroscience author.

The key, Andrew Newberg argues in his new book "How God Changes Your Brain" lies in the concentrating and calming effect that meditation and calming effects that meditation/intense prayer have inside our heads.

Brain scanners show that intense meditation alters our gray matter strengthening regions that focus the mind and foster compassion while calming those linked to fear and anger.

Be aware, whether the meditator believes in the supernatural or is an atheist repeating a mantra. the outcome can be the same- a growth in the compassion that virtually every religion teaches and a decline in negative feelings and emotions.

AGING s-l-o-w-l-y II of II

Prescription for a longer life:

> EAT frugaly.
Go easy on fatty foods and partake of more fish, and other sea foods.
More of fresh fruits, vegetables and some local nuts.

> EXERCISE.
If possible in open air and under the early morning sun.

>JOIN a small group/club.
Spend time in bonding with friends who shared the same interests.

Be aware, the best way to age well would still be- to live well. To live well gives a person fulfillment, and without doubt, makes him contribute toward the health and happiness of others.

AGING s-l-o-w-l-y I of II

Deepak Chopra, in his book "Ageless Body,Timeless Mind" said: " there is a land where youthful vigor, renewal, creativity, joy, fulfillment and timeless are the common experiences of everyday life, where old age, senility, infirmity and death do not exist and are not even entertained as a possibility".

Be aware, you may grow old faster if you suffer from depression, like sadness, inactivity, difficulty in thinking and concentration, and have a feeling of dejection and rejection, - if you lack a work routine, or if you are dissatisfied with your job; easily becoming irritable or angry or unable to express your anger.

However, if you examine yourself well, you'll find that there are certain positive factors that retard aging. One very significant factor is a happy married life, or a very satisfying long-term relationship. To be happy. love your job. Look to the future with hope and optimism. And live within your means.

FISH is Brain Food

New York - older adults in developing countries who regularly eat fish seem to have a lower risk of dementia - a new study suggests.

The study also suggest that the fish-dementia link does not simply reflect the benefits of a generally higher-quality diet. The study found that adults who got the most meat in their diets tended to have a somewhat higher prevalence of dementia than those who never ate
meat.

Be aware, if fish does protect the aging brain, researchers believe that the benefits probably come from the omega-3 fatty acids found most abundantly in oily fish like salmon, mackerel and albacore tuna.

MONEY and H-A-P-P-I-N-E-S-S

Oil magnate J.Paul Getty said: "money does'nt necessarily have any connection with happiness. Maybe with unhappiness." Andrew Carnegie, a pioneer of the steel industry who was then of of the richest men in the world said: " I am not to be envied. How can my wealth help me? I am 60 years old and I cannot digest my food. I would give all my millions if I could have youth and health."

King Solomon of ancient Israel explained: "I became greater and increased more than anyone that happened to be before me in Jerusalem. Yet everything was vanity and striving after the wind." Ecc. 2:9-11

Be aware, the blessing of God, that is what makes rich and HE adds no trouble in it.

MONEY SICKNESS SYNDROME

Dr.Roger Henderson, a mental-health researcher in the United Kingdom comments: " Money sickness syndrome is the physical and psychological symptoms experienced by people who are stressed with money worries. The symptom includes shortness of breath, headaches, nausea, skin rashes, lack of appetite, unjustified anger, nervousness and negative thinking." He adds, money worries are a significant cause of stress.

Money woes are also common in times of abundance. Researchers stated that affluence was one of the principal causes of alcoholism, depression and suicide. One study revealed that despite the abundance and wealth, "fewer than on in three Americans" claimed to be - very happy.

Be aware, reseachers have observed that some people are"highly motivated by money and controlled by money". This may lead to stress and neuroticism. In contrast,"those who budget their money carefully tend to have internal focus of control and positive feelings toward themselves. They are the "masters" of money and not slaves of money. It is also understandable that those who budget their money carefully may also have lower stress and thereby lower strain.

WATER FOR LIFE

Correct timing of water intake will maximize it's effectiveness to the human body.

> Drink 1 glass of water upon waking up. It helps activate our internal organs.
> Drink 2 glasses of water, 30 minutes before every meal. It helps in digestion.
> Drink 1 glass of water before going to sleep. To avoid stroke/heart attack at midnight.
> Drink 1 glass of water after taking a bath to lower blood pressure.

Be aware, water is necessary to flush out the toxins in our body. When your urine is not yet clear, it is an indication that you need more water intake.

KNOWING THE S-E-C-R-E-T OF LIFE II of II

3 BECOME LOVE.
Leo Buscaglia said: "love is life". And if you miss love, you miss life. The first way to live this secret is by choosing to love our

own selves. Unless we fundamentally choose to see ourselves as worthy, we can not find happiness. For some of us, self love may come

naturally because our upbringing and early experiences gave us a deep sense of our own self worth, but for others, love of the self comes

with difficulty. The second part of this secret is to choose to act with love toward those closest to us and to make loving relationships

a priority in our lives.

4 LIVE the moment.
If life goes by quickly, then one of the secrets to happiness is to get more out of the time we have, to find a way that each moment and

each day become great gifts. At its simplest, live the moment means to be fully in every moment of our lives, and not to judge our lives,

but to live fully. We must not focus on the past or future, but experience each moment with gratitude and purpose. We have to recognize

that we have the power in each moment to choose contentment and happiness.

5 GIVE more than you take.
To live in this secret, here are some of the questions we have to ask ourselves:
- Did I make the world a better place this week in some small ways?
- Was I kind, giving, and generous this week?
- How do I want to live this secret more deeply next week?

Be aware, what you sow is what you reap. The more you give, the more the universe will give you more than what you can think of.

KNOWING THE S-E-C-R-E-T OF LIFE by John Izzo I of II

To live wisely, we must recognize that there are two fundamental truths of a human life:

1- We have limited and undefined amount of time - it may be 100 years, 30 years or 70 years.
2- In that limited and undefined amount of time, we have almost unlimited number of choices of how we use our time - the things we choose to focus on and put our energy into - and these choices will ultimately define our lives.

The following are the secrets on how to live a meaningful and worthwhile life:

1 BE TRUE to yourself.
This can be done when we make the choice to live our lives awake. You have to reflect more and ask again and again, whether your life is going in the right direction, and make a constant adjustments to move closer to the life you desire to live.

2 LEAVE no regrets.
We must live with courage, moving toward what we must, rather than away from what we fear. We must overcome the inevitable disappointments that life hands us and we must risk more. We must make a basic choice as to whether we will live in fear or focus on what we want. Each time we play it safe, we move farther away from our truest self. Each time we choose not to move in the direction of what we want, we plant the seeds of future regret.

Q-U-E-S-T-I-O-N

Voltaire said: "Judge a person by their questions rather than answers."

The willingness to ask questions coupled with the discipline to seek out answers separates leaders from followers. Those who influence question assumptions, inquire about the environment around them and prove into the future. They have an insatiable appetite to learn and they convert their knowledge to action at light speed.

By routinely questioning their goals, motives and purpose, leaders rener their self identity along with their sense of perspective. The benefits of examining yourself as a leader are:

1 Quality questions create a quality life.
2 Focused questions stimulates creative thinking.
3 Honest questions lead to solid convictions.
Inquisitiveness clarifies morals and beliefs.
4 Correct questions help us find ourselves and our mission.

Be aware, tackling life's questions brings direction and meaning to life's journey.

. What is your passion?
. What have you achieved?
. What have you done uncommonly well?
. How are you wired?
. Where do you belong?

These and other questions like them will direct you toward the self your heart longs for: they will help you discover the task for which you were especially made.

KNOWING EMOTION III of III

Emotions are difficult to deal with because often, both we and the people who press out buttons, identify completely and falsely with our emotional states. We believe that there is such an intimate personal ownership of what and how we feel that our reactions to them come from a literally toxic arsenal that either makes us attack someone or defend ourselves. We are movie screens behaving badly, believing we are the movie that is playing.

Be aware, this identification/ownership of emotions extends way beyond the frontier of emotions into our opinions, preferences, biases, possessions, and even our convictions. We forget that many times in our lives, we have changed our minds about how we feel or think about people, places, and issues big and small.

KNOWING EMOTION II of III

Try to imagine that you are a screen in a movie house. Every few weeks, there is a different movie that is playing. One week it's a western, then it's a psycho-thriller, then a drama, then a comedy. And yet, whatever is projected on it, the screen remains unaffected in any permanent way. When the story ends, the screen remains just as it was before the movies were projected on it. It's inherent, clear and blank nature is intact.

Perhaps a better way to express loneliness is to say "I feel lonely" instead of "I am lonely". This puts feelings in the right perspective and makes them manageable. We dis-identify from them without denying them, and because we do this, they become easier to deal with.

Be aware, feelings can really be powerful, overwhelming even. They are not to be denied, but we should not allow them to reign over us permanently or absorb them completely into our identity as persons.

KNOWING EMOTION I of III

The very way we express our emotions is symptomatic of our misunderstanding of the nature of emotions and our own nature as human beings experiencing them.

When we say we are lonely, we declare an identificationwith that emotion. In a real way, we believe we are the emotion we feel. Yet the fact is loneliness - or whatever emotion we feel - is not our identity. It may seem very real, but we are in fact not it.

Be aware, the emotions we feel may be strong or weak, intense or light, pleasant or unpleasant, but we are not our emotions. Why? Simply because emotions come and go - and "we remain". So at best, they are mere states we go through.

KNOWING SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINE II of II

. KEEP the mind always in a positive state by thinking of positive thoughts (positivism mantra).
. TRUST in God and all things will be provided to you. (christian belief system).
. ALL things, dramas and situations are illusions coated by the egoistic mind, so detach and do not hold on to them. Attachment causes suffering (eastern mysticism)

The most efficient technique is an increasing mindfulness of one's self and a certain degree of discipline to keep the mind steady and alert. All our conscious/unconscious actions and reactions that cause us to suffer stem from the mind and how it perceives the outside world. The thoughts that occupy our minds trigger and fuel our emotions; create the kind of life we have, the kind of person we believe we are.

Be aware, mind creates thoughts plus the quality of our soul equals Consciousness. The kind of consciousness we have gives us a hint of the quality of our minds. The kind of person we are, our approach to our relationship and the world and the expression of our life give us a hint of the kind of consciousness we have.

KNOWING SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINE I of II

An integrated spiritual discipline is a constant and regular daily integral practice in one's life that brings together the Body, Heart and Mind and Spirit towards wholeness.

MOVE the body in physical activity.

LISTEN to the heart through inner reflection of the state of your emotions.

STRENGTHEN the Spirit by activities such as going to hear mass, prayer and bible reading, meditation, a movement discipline like yoga, tai-chi or chi-gong practice or even inner reflection that changes the quality of thought.

Be aware, no matter what's the crisis in our life, no matter how imbalanced we can get . . . with this daily spiritual discipline, we have a rudder that will keep us steady. Such spiritual discipline lighten the soul, focus the thoughts and transform these to be seen in outward actions of steadiness, patience and a peaceful demeanor. We will also find that gratefulness arises in the heart for the constant blessings we have each day. The integrated spiritual practice will help us weather the emotional forms that becomes milestones of inner soul growth in this journey of like.

KNOWING ATTITUDE by C. Swindoll

The longer I live, the more I realized the impact of attitude in life. Attitude is more than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than than appearance, gift or skill. It will make or break a company, a church, a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday on the kind of attitude we will imbibe for the day. We can not change our past, we can not change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We can not change the inevitable.

Be aware, the only thing we can do is play the one string we have and that is our a-t-t-i-t-u-d-e. After all, life is 10% what happens to me and 90% on how I react to it.

KNOWING PLANT PROTEIN by Dr. Heber

Many plant foods such as soybeans, rice, corn and peas are rich sources of protein. The soy protein contains is one of the highest quality protein in the plant world - it contains the right balance of amino acid building block to provide the correct nutrition to the cells of our body. Other protein such as corn and beans must be combined in order to attain the same nutritional value as soy.

Be aware, you save a lot of calories by comparison to combinations of rice and beans or corn and beans, and even more when compared to proteins from animals which contain high fats.

KINDS OF PEOPLE YOU MUST BEWARE

MANIPULATIVE.
These individuals are experts with manipulation tactics. They figure out what your buttons are and push them to get what they want.

NARCISSISTIC.
These people have an extreme sense of self-importance and believe that the world revolves around them. You often want to say to them "it is'nt always about you."

DOWNER.
These people can't appreciate the positive in life. If you tell them it's a beautiful day, they will tell you about the impending dreary forecast. They take the joy of everything.

JUDGEMENTAL.
When you see things as cute and quirky, they see things as strange and unattractive. If you find people's unique perspectives refreshing, they find them wrong.

DREAM KILLERS.
Every time you have an idea, these people tell you why you can't do it. As you achieve, they try to pull you down. As you dream, they are the first to tell you it is impossible.

INSINCERE.
You never quiet feel that these people are being sincere. You tell a funny story, they give you a polite laugh. You feel depressed and sad and they give you a "there, there" response. This breeds shallow, meningless relationships. When you are reall in need of a friend, they won't be there. When you really need constructive criticism, they would rather tell you that you are great the way you are. When you need support, they would rather see you fail or make a fool of yourself.

DISRESPECTFUL.
These people will do or say things at the most inappropriate times and in the most inappropriate ways. In the corporate world, it's the collegue who says demeaning things to you. These people have no sense of bondaries and don't respect your feelings or for that matter your privacy.

NEVER ENOUGH.
You can never give enough to these people to make them happy. They take you for granted and have unrealistic expectations of you. They find ways to continually fault you and never take responsibility for anything themselves.

BE aware, Blumentahal said:" life is too short to spend your time dealing with these people. Start with your own outlook in life. We can change our personality. Evaluate your life and realize that worrying can't solve anything but by having a happy personality and a positive attitude, you can always get things done.

KNOWING TAI-CHI III of IV

If you are the type of person who gets easily stressed or is always under a lot of pressure from work, it is important that you put a lot of focus on your movements and breathing while doing tai-chi session. This way, it will help put you in a state of relaxation and calm.

Other known health benefits that you can gain from regular practice of tai-chi:
. an increase in flexibility
. an increase in energy and stamina
. an improvement in muscle strength and definition
. reduced anxiety and depression
. lower blood pressure
. improved quality of sleep
. improved balance and coordination
. improved cardiovascular fitness
. relief from chronic pain

Be aware, if you have arthritis, or you've currently recovering from an injury, tai-chi is dedinitely great exercise program for you.

KNOWING TAI-CHI II of IV

In order to do tai-chi, one must perform a series of postures or movements in a slow and graceful manner. Also make sure that when you do these exercises, each posture flows into the next without pausing.

The proper use of technique in this exercise is much more important than strength. As tai-chi has more than 100 different movements and positions, you can either stick to the ones that you are most comfortable doing or challenge yourself in trying everything out. When it comes to intensity of this exercise, it depends on the tai-chi style that you are practicing as there are some tai-chi styles that are more fast-paced compared to others.

Be aware, if you have any health problems with your spine, joints and heart, then the most important it is for you to get your doctor's permission first.

KNOWING TAI-CHI I of IV

Tai-chi chuan or tai-chi is an ancient form of martial art that is being practiced for health reasons. The 5 major tai-chi styles are:
. chen style
. yang style.
. wu/hao style of wu yu-hsiang
. wu style/ wu ch'uan-yu and his son wu chien-ch'uan
. sun style

Be aware, often described as "meditation in motion", tai-chi has a calming effect, brought about by it's gentle movements which are also believed to connect the mind and body. While it was initially developed as a form of self-defense in China, tai-chi is now being practiced regularly to help reduce stress aside from it's other health benefits.
