The most common type of lung cancer is bronchogenic carcinoma, which is highly malignant, and has a very poor prognosis. Besides being the second most cancer in men, it is also the leading cause of cancer death. It is most commonly seen between the ages of 45 and 70. The principal cause of cancer of the lungs is the smoking of cigarettes. 'Second hand' cigarette smoke or remittent environmental pollution play a role in it's cause.
Patients typically present with cough, with or without blood in the sputum, chest pains, fever, weight loss, fatigue and hoarseness. The cancer is easily diagnosed based on the history of cigarette smoking, chest x-rays and sputum analysis.
> One type of lung cancer has been found among people who have had close exposure to birds. The bird's emissions lodged in the person's lungs and eventually caused cancer.
> Another type mostly afflicted the Chinese. Researchers suggested it had something to do with the hot liquid they drink - water, tea, and soup. The Chinese drink these very hot, slurp some air in everytime to make the heat bearable thus causing cancer.
